Late Summer 2011 Sebald Events

Looking for an excuse to travel this summer?  On July 19 and 20, you could be in Aix-en-Provence to see the world premiere of Jérôme Combier’s  Austerlitz: Eine Kindheitsreise – Un voyage d’enfance.  Described as a musical and theatrical work based on W.G. Sebald’s novel  Austerlitz, the performances will take place in the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume.  There is more information at the Ictus website and here is the blurb from the website of the Festival Aix en Provence:

A little bit later this summer, there are good reasons to go to Edinburgh to attend this summer’s Edinburgh International Book Festival, which has two Sebald events.  On August 28. Will Self will talk on “W.G. Sebald: An Enduring Legacy.”  On August 29, three different writers will explore “Writing, Landscape and Memory in W.G. Sebald”: Jo Catling, who worked with Sebald in East Anglia and has translated several of his works from German; Daniel Medin, who has written a book on Sebald’s debt to the work of Kafka; and Geoff Dyer, who compares Sebald with Thomas Bernhard.  Follow the links for details.

Not sure how else to contact you, just wanted to bring your attention to a recent photography book instigated by one of the photographs in Sebald’s “Austerlitz” of the library in Therezin
